The tradition of red Easter eggs, often dyed on Holy Thursday, is connected with the meaning of the Resurrection and serves as a simple yet powerful symbol of faith.
The red color primarily recalls the Blood of Christ, that is, His sacrifice on the Cross. At the same time, the egg itself symbolizes the life hidden within a “closed” shell. Just as the shell breaks and new life comes forth, so too Christ, coming out of the Tomb, reveals the victory of life over death.
That is why the cracking of the eggs after the Paschal Liturgy is not simply a game or a custom: it symbolically evokes the breaking of death’s bonds and the hope of the Resurrection shared among people.
